Wonderful Words of Life
Words and music by P. P. Bliss, 1874 (1838-1876)
Sing them over again to me,
wonderful words of life,
Let me more of their beauty see,
wonderful words of life;
Words of life and beauty
teach me faith and duty.
Refrain
Beautiful words, wonderful words,
wonderful words of life,
Beautiful words, wonderful words,
wonderful words of life.
Christ, the blessèd One, gives to all
wonderful words of life;
Sinner, list to the loving call,
wonderful words of life;
All so freely given,
wooing us to heaven.
Refrain
Beautiful words, wonderful words,
wonderful words of life,
Beautiful words, wonderful words,
wonderful words of life.
Sweetly echo the Gospel call,
wonderful words of life;
Offer pardon and peace to all,
wonderful words of life;
Jesus, only Savior,
sanctify forever.
Refrain
Beautiful words, wonderful words,
wonderful words of life,
Beautiful words, wonderful words,
wonderful words of life.
Both words and music of thios gospel song were composed in 1874 by Philip Bliss, who was born in 1838 to religious and musical parents who lived in a log cabin. As a young adult, Bliss taught music during the winter months and workd on the farm in the summer. He later worked with evangelists of his time, writing message-filled gospel songs. He and his wife Lucy died in 1876 in a train crash.
